In August 2022 Why Media’s Rowen Squibb was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to discuss business needs, with a supportive and clearly intelligent Liz Truss, who now holds the role of British prime Minister.

Much has been made in recent days of the 448,000 strong public sector and the simplification of the matters for all parties both public and private.

Combating red tape and the myriad of legislation with Liz Truss, our new Prime Minister was at the top of Rowen Squibb’s agenda, when putting forward change that will increase productivity and offer a solution beyond tax and spend!

Does Liz Truss have the will to breathe fresh air into British business? Our colleague met and spoke with Ms Truss recently and he was pleasantly surprised by her pro-business and no-nonsense approach to getting things done. To be fair to Mrs Truss, she wrote more trade deals around the world than anyone expected and the proof is in the doing.

Why Media’s Rowen Squibb meets with Liz Truss and discusses what business needs from the government.

Triumphing the position of Prime Minister, Britain no longer has some of the hangover and negative media stream that Mr Johnson MP faced. Now in charge, Britain is rewarded with a third female in Prime Minister Liz Truss something which undeniably reflects well on the Conservatives, when you see that Labour is still on zero. Her role in the office is an incredible mark of the progression for women in the workplace and as the ex-minister of Women and Equalities, it is a huge personal and political victory. As the UK welcomes her into the role, we explore what she will bring to our country as well as how she responded to Why Media's specific feedback.

Why Media put to Mrs Truss the importance of simplifying the system and delivering more opportunities for workers in the United Kingdom through productivity. Rowen Squibb explains “Ms Truss is a hugely approachable politician, that is keen to move the country forward, she was receptive to the ideas we tabled and get the challenges that red tape creates, productivity will pay down the countries debt and most businesses want to grow and do the right thing by their team members and in a broader sense, help UK PLC be a success story”.

Ms Liz Truss Prime Minister promises to be good for business with immediate plans to get the economy going. Seemingly, Ms Truss promotes a pro-business work environment and wants to create an improvement to employment and wages, something the UK is in desperate need of post-Covid and amid the cost of living crisis. Immediately, The new Prime Minister has multiple plans in place and changes in mind that can propel productivity, this includes reviving the economy with £30 billion of tax cuts, a real nod to Thatcherism. From a business perspective, Why Media applauds the business tax increase drop, as it consequently allows us to have money to invest. These are big promises to make and a tall ask given the rising cost of living and the impact on inflation; Branded by some as “Boris in a dress” can Liz Truss address and imply her promises or will the task be too big? It’s a gamble that The Prime Minister is putting her political career on. The Prime Minister said to Why Media I want to understand concerns and areas that can be improved working with Paul Bristow MP, Why Media can put forward things that need addressing and ways to ensure an already very successful private sector can continue to thrive and drive first-class public services

Furthermore, despite the Foreign Secretary previously voting to stay in the EU, her war on EU red tape and her desire to unleash the UK from the ties that bind in Europe are bold suggestions that have sparked attention and caution from UK citizens. Fervently, she seemingly believes she could make Britain the most agile economy in Europe. Moreover, relaxing migration rules to ease the employment woes is also an idea to stimulate growth.

Upon meeting her personally, Ms Truss took on Why Media's feedback about business clarity but with her reputation for U-turns and withdrawals, can we trust Truss will stick with her suggestions despite her wavering views potentially losing the trust of the UK citizens?

Only time will tell, but with a strong business-focused approach to her role as Prime minister, she shows great potential to destroy distraction and say yes to success in the UK.
