The Heart Shopping Centre Walton-on-Thames is pleased to report a successful fundraising day at the Centre on Sunday 12th September 2021.

Retailers, Restaurants and the community got behind a fun-filled Family Fun Day as part of the Shopping Centre’s support for the One Great Day initiative.

Established in 2014, One Great Day is a registered charity established by parents whose son received treatment at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Since then, One Great Day has raised over £750,000 for over 200 different health charities across the UK following collaborations with Shopping Centres and Managing Agents such as Savills (who manage The Heart Shopping Centre).

Following the success of The Heart’s first One Great Day event in June 2019, where the Centre raised just under £1,000, The Heart is delighted to announce that this year there was a 70% uplift in what was raised with the total falling just over £1,600! All proceeds from Sunday’s Family Fun Day will be split evenly between Great Ormond Street Hospital and Kingston based Momentum Children’s Charity which is The Heart’s charity for 2021.

The hugely successful Family Fun Day consisted of numerous activities including a tombola, craft workshop, Caricaturist, face painting, glitter tattoos, hook-a-duck and even a Disney meet and greet. All activities were available for a minimum donation of £3 each.

The event, which ran between 11 am and 4 pm generated excitement across the community with queues for each activity starting around 10.30 am. The pre-event promotion online also generated hype with The Heart’s Marketing Agency, Why Media being contacted by several local companies, bloggers and residents all keen to get involved.

We were very keen to ensure this event not only raised lots of money for Great Ormond Street Hospital and our Charity of the year, Momentum Children’s Charity but to also welcome back the Walton community to events that have been on hold since February 2020 due to the pandemic. During the day the Centre was continuously busy with retailers seeing strong increases in footfall and sales.  It was a fantastic atmosphere and I'd like to personally thank everybody involved on the day!”
