On Wednesday 3rd December, BCSC (British Council of Shopping Centres)  held their annual Gold Awards at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London. The prestigious event sees some of the industry's key performers and partners go head to head in order to pick up a Gold Award - one of the most recognised awards within the retail property sector.

This year, 2014, Why Media was delighted to have two of their clients nominated for the ‘Refurbishment and/or Extension over £5 Million’ award.

Victoria Place Shopping Centre, which is located adjacent to London Victoria Station in Chelsea was nominated for this category following an extensive refurbishment project over the past eighteen months. The refurbishment works have been a huge success and following the remodelling and updating of the centre, Victoria Place has seen some key brands line up for space. These include, The Body Shop, TortillaLeon RestaurantsLola’s Cupcakes and the first UK store for dutch retailer HEMA.

In addition, Victoria Place has also been the first destination for french retailer Pylones to launch an exciting pop-up store as well as new click and collect service fromDoddle.

Due to impressive achievements, Victoria Place came runner, which is a fantastic news, another long term client of Why Media Woking Shopping took the top award with ease.

Located at the very centre of Woking, Surrey, Woking Shopping is the umbrella name for the town’s key retail and leisure offer consisting of The Peacocks Centre, Wolsey Place, Jubilee Square and the recently opened Market Walk.

Prior to the investment and refurbishment of Woking Shopping, the destination was failing to meet the aspirations of the affluent catchment area. Following a new joint venture with Woking Borough Council and Moyallan, the asset owners, Woking Shopping underwent a refurbishment programme which saw the redesign of Jubilee Square , a large public space in the heart of the development which now links the entrances to Wolsey Place, Peacocks Centre and Market Walk. Since these redevelopments, Woking Shopping has seen the arrival of some excellent brands includingTrespass, Bill’s RestaurantCargo Home ShopDeichmann and Carluccio’s

Claire White, Account Director for Why Media goes on to explain; “We were delighted to hear that not one but two of our clients were nominated for this impressive award by BCSC. Both of the centres have undergone such transformations since we have been supporting their digital presence and being recognised by the Gold Awards is the icing on the cake. Woking Shopping more than deserves this prestigious award and with redevelopments continuing in Woking with the arrival of Victoria Square we are confident that this will be the first award of many.”
